Website Design

Just a few short years ago you would here me proclaim, “ if a company didn’t have a website they may as well tell the world there shutting their doors.”  While there is some truth to that statement, things are changing rapidly.  I now look at it quite different, “If your website isn’t adding to the goals of the company, why do you have one?”  And to me, that is where website design should begin, by looking at the goals of the company and how the website is going to help accomplish those goals.

Website design should, first and foremost, know the customer it is going to serve.  Could your company be helped by improving internal communication?  Then make your website do that. Need new customers? Or to sell to your existing clients?  How about just reducing the time employees spend helping clients?  A website can do that too!

Sometimes websites need to be re-built from the ground up, other times we have to retro-fit them to serve our needs.  A website must be a resource, that offers some sort of value to your business. Otherwise it is simply a waste of resources.

Website Design for your small business must begin by aligning the site with your company goals.  Before one page is built, or a change is made there should be a justifiable reason.  Website design is not simply going to some service that cost $4.99 per month, throwing words on the screen and putting the site address on your business cards.  After all, if you get nothing from that site, you’ve wasted time, money, and even more so, your company’s reputation is at risk.
