I remember one time in a job interview being asked “Why should we hire you over the other candidates we are interviewing?” We’ve all heard of questions like this and perhaps have asked a similar question to potential employees. I answered this question with the utmost sincerity, although it may have been received as a little sarcasm, “I can’t tell you why you should hire me over somebody else. I don’t know them, I don’t know what they can bring to your company. “ (and the possibly perceived sarcasm) “And really that is your job to determine who will best fit your needs. I can only tell you what I can do for you and you have to make the best choice you can”. Two of three hiring managers in the room smiled at that answer, and the third offered me the job a week later.
I share this with you because I absolutely believe you need to know who I am if we are to have a successful relationship. Sure, you need to know I am capable of delivering to your needs, but there are thousands of people who can provide similar service. So it really comes down to trust and whether we can work together. I would ask that if you are truly looking for somebody to help you with marketing your small business, you spend most of your time on this site learning about me.
